Investing in the local economy means supporting local businesses and suppliers by buying local, buying social, investing in the local supply chains and opening up business opportunities to local SMEs.
What this means in practice:
Buy Local is supported by the Council's Value Croydon Programme which is currently being developed with the vision of working together with businesses, the community and other public sector agencies to promote social value in Croydon through responsible, local procurement and supply chain opportunities. The ambition is that Croydon will be a place where social value, through creativity and innovation drive economic growth to improve the quality of life for all.
Business in the community
This consists of investing in local people and local communities via volunteering. This can be achieved via a number of mechanisms, some of which are listed below:
Enabling and encouraging well supported volunteering opportunities that make the most of available skills and resources
Domestic Violence - White Ribbon Campaign
The WRC is the largest effort in the world of men working to end men's violence against women. WRC is an educational organisation to encourage reflection and discussion that leads to personal and collective action among men. Throughout the year, WRC encourages men
Croydon Council has supported the campaign along with Croydon Police, Crystal Palace Football Club Foundation, Croydon College and Croydon BID as well as seeking the support of the wider business community.
Digital inclusion – GO On Croydon
As on-line and digital services continue to provide more and more opportunity to individuals, local businesses and third sector organisations, the gap between those able to access those opportunities and those unable grows greater. Often those people missing out are those most in need. GO ON Croydon program in partnership with Doteveryone assists the community to benefit from access to digital services.
Healthy Living - Just Be Croydon
JustBe Croydon website has been designed to help residents take positive steps towards a happier and healthier YOU!
